Swinging at night in Gorky Park Moscow

Gorky Park, Moscow, Russia

Opening of the largest and most modern children’s playground in Russia for the 90-year anniversary of Gorky Park.

Moscow’s most famous green space, Gorky Park, celebrated its 90th birthday in 2018. The largest and most modern children’s playground in Russia was opened here in mid-August as part of the celebrations – directly next door to a former museum for contemporary art called the “Garage”, which today is a luxurious creative workshop for children with its own kitchen and herb garden.

Diverse play areas

In cooperation with architects AFA Moscow a very special playground, attractive to both young and old, was created on a spacious site. The existing tree population was retained, with various play areas arranged according to theme between them. These include water, swings, sand, towers and bridges, action and roundabouts, which are a homage to the funfair attractions that used to be located here.

„Mega Swing“

In addition to the large area with high-quality water play equipment that appeals to the senses, the undisputed main attractions of the ambitious urban project include the high climbing towers, which can be seen from afar, and the so-called “Mega Swing” made from stainless steel. The latter is a swing structure specially designed for this playground. It boasts many different swings, hung at various heights on an expansive curved steel construction that rises at one side. The ellipse is fitted with interactive movement sensors that light up the swings with an aesthetic play of colours in the twilight and after dark.
