Kazan, Russia

The capital of the Republic of Tatarstan in southwestern Russia, situated on the banks of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers has a new attraction. In early summer of 2018, a large water playground opened here. It was designed by the Moscow-based architectural firm AFA and outfitted with equipment from Richter Spielgeräte, Frasdorf, Germany.

Various damming elements made of stainless steel, such as Board Gates, Bar Gates, Lock Gates, Sickle Gates, Rotating Gates and Round Flaps, stimulate children's imagination to experience flowing water in a creative manner. A Mushroom Spring supplemented by a Water Reservoir turns the cool water into a splashing pleasure. The two large Archimedes Screws are all about water supply. According to the traditional principle of the water screw, water is conveyed from a lower level to a higher level here. Each rotation of the screws causes them to draw water from the lower basins, which then rises in the respective screw and pours into the upper basins. The nicely shaped Bucket Wheels with their light-reflecting bowls are an additional eye-catcher of the water playground.
