Falk Dorband

Graphic designer and play equipment planner

After completing his graphic design course in Würzburg and industrial design at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (university of art and design) in Kassel, Falk Dorband, native of Schweinfurt, founded a company together with fellow students developing and selling wooden toys. At the same time he began to work as a freelance industry designer.

He later founded a company for play objects together with the designer Klaus Hermann Thiele, which was primarily concerned with the design and realisation of playgrounds for people with disabilities. During this time, a diverse number of play equipment for public areas, schools and hospitals was also built. In 1990, these activities developed into the collaboration with Richter Spielgeräte GmbH.

Designs in the Richter programme

Dorband comments on his creative work: “Playing is one of the most intensive and long-lasting factors of human development. It is an indispensable source of happiness, orientation and experience. During play, the desire for creative activities in many developmentally relevant areas is able to freely unfold. The diversity of this subject is what makes this activity so exciting. Social changes have created new challenges; in particular for ‘play areas for children’. I have found a reliable partner in the Richter Spielgeräte company to tackle this.”
