Martin Rohrbach

Watching a boy on his play console trying to influence the game on the monitor using hefty body movements was a key experience for him. This movement was triggered by visual stimuli from the monitor however it was all to no effect – only his thumbs had any kind of influence. Rohrbach drew the following conclusions from this:

"The attempt to make real movement experiences possible for children is the guiding principle behind my designs." - Martin Rohrbach

Here water should be the embodiment of vitality and an ever-changing variety of form. The combination of movement and water and the playful confrontation with it is able to fulfil a broad range of developmental potential. This applies to physical movement as well as the fine visual and haptic experiences. The fact that even the laws of nature can be playfully explored and internalised, transforms it into a holistic experience which promotes cognitive development.

Born in 1966 in Stuttgart, Martin Rohrbach studied at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung (design university) in Schwäbisch Gmünd from 1989 to 1995 and has been working as a self-employed designer since then.
