Stockton Waterfront Urban Park

Stockton / England / 2026
The recently opened inclusive playground at Stockton Waterfront Urban Park in Stockton-on-Tees, England, is a spacious play paradise for young and old alike. A wide variety of play and activity options ensure an exciting and entertaining visit.

The two tall climbing towers, visible from afar with their striking roofs sloping down on one side, give the playground a distinctive character and invite visitors to climb and explore. You can explore the interior of the towers either via ladders or climbing nets. A really special feature is the wide wooden ramp, which also enables children with disabilities or older people to access the towers.

The two towers are connected by a mesh tunnel that hangs at a dizzying height and requires a fair bit of courage. The open-work design of the towers, featuring slats and netting, ensures safety – children climbing up here can make eye contact with their carers below at any time, and vice versa.

Winding tunnel slides run down from various levels of the towers. What great fun it is to whizz out of the dark tube with a burst of momentum and back into the daylight!

A smaller platform, situated in the play area between the towers, features a particularly wide and gentle slide; here, both young children and children with disabilities can have their first go at sliding. For the little ones, there is also a climbing course that allows them to practise climbing and balancing at a low height. The various playhouses are perfect for getting fully immersed in role-playing games or simply taking a step back from the action to have a little rest.

The water play area wows visitors with a wooden millwheel and a system of water channels, which is supplied with water via a hand-operated lever pump. At the lower end of the wooden channels is a mud table where children can build to their heart’s content and play with water and sand. Inclusion is a top priority at this playground; for example, the pump can be approached by wheelchair and the lever operated whilst seated, and the channels are also designed so that a wheelchair can roll underneath them. Further opportunities for physical activity can be found in the triple swing area. Here there is a nest swing for gentle rocking for the little ones, a swing for the more adventurous, and next to it a swing with a special safety seat, so that even children with physical disabilities can swing happily back and forth here.

In the sand play area, a wide variety of equipment offers opportunities for building with sand. Sand and mud can be transported via the tracks from the platform to the building site, where they are ‘processed’ further.

On the tall slide hill, the slightly more daring children in particular can embark on a special adventure. Laughing and cheering, they whizz down the hill on very long, winding through slides.

This park and playground offer fun and challenges for the whole family!
