Dumfries House, Cumnock, Scotland
A playground under the direction of HRH Prince Charles
Dumfries House, an approximately 800 ha listed country estate with a historic 18th century manor house is currently being restored and revitalised under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Charles. After completion of all works, the estate should be able to support itself through its income.
Many milestones have already been reached. The manor house has been restored and many buildings have been put to new uses - there is now a restaurant, a school for painting courses, artists' studios and much more. Soon the Queen Elizabeth Gardens, an impressive arboretum with a collection of 500 tree species, will also open soon.
The adventure playground, created in 2013, has a toddlers' area close to the café and an adjoining woodland area where older children will find a climbing structure, a cable car, a rotating disc and other exciting play facilities. Wooden sculptures by local artist Robert Coia create a very special atmosphere.
A water play area is currently being planned.
