Darling Quarter Sydney, Australia

A design playground whose play equipment merges with the surroundings

Although Sydney's newest district, the Darling Quarter, is located in the heart of the city, it offers plenty of space for leisure and recreation. The aim of this urban development project was to create family-friendly urban space for living and working. The integrated park has proved to be a key driver for the development of the Darling Quarter.
It is also home to one of the city's most exciting playgrounds. Its spacious water area has been laid out on a concrete surface whose design is reminiscent of ice floes.
The water is pumped, for example with the easy-to-use "water dispenser", which even the very youngest children can easily operate. The water flows through channels between the "ice floes" and can be dammed and diverted here and there. It can then be transported back up again using the Archimedean screw and scoop well.
